Cuba: opposition activists arrested when trying to deliver signatures for the release of all political prisoners
posted on Friday, July 23, 2010Between five and ten activists from different Cuban opposition, organizations were arrested in La Habana when they were trying to deliver more than 52,000 signatures from all over the world in support of this Campaign’s demand for the release of all Cuban political prisoners, and the respect of human rights in Cuba.
Elizardo Sánchez Santa-Cruz, spokesperson for the Cuban Commission of Human Rights and National Reconciliation, informed that the arrests occurred around 10:00 am, when the activists were to deliver the signatures to the Cuban National Assembly. Their location and condition are still unknown. The political police prevented other activists from leaving their homes.
